Martin Zhang completed his undergraduate and master's studies at Peking University and holds Bar qualification in China. During the past four years, his main practice areas cover intellectual property, competition law, and internet law. Since starting his practice, he has been deeply focused on data rights protection litigation and cutting-edge Internet unfair competition litigation. He has successfully handled numerous complex intellectual property and unfair competition cases for several internet platform companies. Some of these cases have been selected as part of the top ten typical cases of the year by many courts.

The selection process for the "2023 LEGALBAND China 30 Under 30" list underwent more than a month of in-depth research. They finally selected the 30 most outstanding young lawyers in mainland China. Martin Zhang graduated from Peking University with both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Since starting to practice, he has focused on data rights protection litigation and cutting-edge Internet unfair competition litigation.


Data rights protection litigation is Martin Zhang’s specialty. He took part in the "Ke.com Housing Data Scraping Case", which was honored as one of the top ten typical cases by Beijing IP Court in 2022, achieving the first data rights confirmation for Ke.com. In another case he represented, involving social media data scraping, storage, and sale, a high compensation of 20 million yuan was awarded in the first instance.


Martin Zhang also has rich experience in handling Internet unfair competition lawsuits. For example, he represented Tencent in an unfair competition lawsuit against unauthorized WeChat plug-ins and won a high compensation of 40 million yuan in the Sichuan High Court. This case was honored as one of the top ten typical cases by Sichuan High Court and Chengdu Intermediate Court. He also won a high compensation of 3 million yuan in the Guangzhou IP Court, which was also honored as a typical case.
